North Warwickshire and Hinckley & Bosworth LEADER Grant Recipient The Gate Hangs Well
Project Type: Restaurant and Cafe Investments
Grant Awarded: £74,993.60 Percentage Intervention 35.2%
Contracted: 2019
A broad business development opportunity identified to secure the viability of the remaining village pub. The Project sought to build on the existing business as a public house and restaurant by extending the premises and growing the local provision to include a Coffee shop, a Village shop, a microbrewery and improved restaurant facilities. The investment and business plan in seeking to secure the viability of the village pub rather innovatively sought to provide much needed services for its local community and support a continuation of the community coffee morning each Friday.
The Business owners vision went beyond the norm offering community space to provide a hub for community meetings, blood donation, councillor surgeries and mother and toddler groups enabling a variety of rural services to be provided to and for the benefit of the local community.
The investment would also provide appeal to day visitors and passing tourism trade.
Project Achievements: The project completed in December 2019 with the creation of 5.5 FTE jobs, providing an extended offering of services including the much needed village shop, Coffee shop and improved restaurant. The project hopes to see increased day visitors to the area over the life of the project and given the range of services offered will benefit local businesses.
