J Beaty & Son is a family farming partnership which is currently managed by three partners. 25 years ago. The farm was converted from dairy to arable and the overall hectarage farmed was increased gradually through share farming agreements. The total area farmed today is 2000 ha.

This project allowed J Beaty & Son to invest in some state of the art precision technology that is not widely available to neighbouring farmers, increasing potential for them to take on specific contracting jobs.

The business developed its precision capabilities using GPS controlled agricultural machinery including yield mapping, precision spraying and variable rate drilling. The next step had been precision and variable rate application of fertiliser to ensure that only what is needed by the crop is applied, with significant benefits for the environment and reduced nitrogen and phosphate run off which can contaminate water courses.

Project Achievements: Completed in December 2020 and outputs achieved with the introduction of precision and variable rate application of fertiliser.
