Halloween Pumpkin Smash Event

Communities across Leicestershire are being urged to help prevent waste this Halloween.

The 'Pumpkin Smash' event at Stokes Wood Allotments in Leicester on 9 November, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, is one way in which you can reduce your Halloween waste.

The event encourages the public to bring along their carved pumpkins so that they can be composted. The event is part of a wider effort by Leicestershire County Council to support communities in waste prevention activities.

Over Halloween, it is estimated that nearly 22 million pumpkins will go uneaten. However, flesh, and the seeds of pumpkins along with the stringy bits can provide some delicious treats instead.

An estimated seven million items of clothing, including Halloween costumes, are sent to landfill annually in the UK. To counter this, residents are advised to donate their used Halloween costumes to charity or reuse shops after their celebrations.
