The 'Knitting the Community Together', an inspirational real-life example of asset-based thinking & doing session took place online on the 16 May. Sarah Carter from the Council introduced the principles of Asset Based Approaches. This was followed by a motivational presentation from Natalie and Mel, Co directors of Gather Create Grow, who shared their journey on how they met as two individuals looking for meaningful connections and a sense of belonging in their community. This led to setting up a local group and then establishing a Community Interest Company. Natalie and Mel shared their experience of how they used the principles of an Asset based approach to fulfil their passions and goals.
Participants joined in the discussions where they were asked to share the existing strengths and resources in their local communities and identify the wider benefits of using such assets.
The session provided an opportunity for local community groups, organisations, businesses, and residents to find out about the benefits of using Asset Based Approaches, by encouraging collaboration to make a real difference in local communities.
