The Communities Network Sustainable Food in Leicestershire A Place to Grow event was warmly welcomed by Community organisations, Residents, Volunteers and Businesses in Leicestershire.
Leicestershire County Council jointly organised the event with key partners on Wednesday 27 September 2023 at A Place to Grow, a sustainable community allotment.
The aim of the event was to showcase growing local produce and food waste prevention, supporting positive health and wellbeing, and help to address the cost-of-living crisis by helping to create a more sustainable approach to food in Leicestershire
The event was organised in partnership with Blaby District Council who introduced the background to A Place to Grow and organised a tour of the allotment. The Local Area Co ordinater spoke about a Local Community Fridge initiative which has been set up by Volunteers in Braunstone Town. Public Health delivered a presentation on Food sustainability and the Environment and Waste team spoke about Food Waste.
Community organisations and partners who attended the event had the opportunity to hear from a number of experts and network with different people who had a wealth of experience and knowledge around food sustainability.
