Community Health and Learning Foundation

Community Health and Learning Foundation (CHLF) delivers health literacy information and training to vulnerable and disadvantaged people and communities.

They were awarded £9,644 SHIRE grant to deliver 10 x 6 week healthy cooking sessions to people with low levels of health literacy, from deprived communities in Leicestershire, i.e. those known to experience significantly worse health outcomes.

CHLF identified a number of partner organisations around the County to work with to identify participants for the sessions, such as The Bridge, Exaireo Trust and Falcon Centre in Loughborough, Emmaus in Hinckley, and Me and My Learning in Melton.

Six of the most popular recipes will be filmed and uploaded to YouTube, Facebook and other Social Media. A cookbook containing recipes has also been produced for participants.

The project received funding for tutor costs; food; materials and equipment along with the media production and editing of the popular cooking recipes.
